Nesting Dolls (Matryoshka)
A century ago, on the outskirts of Moscow, a little family owned workshop called ‘Children’s Education’ set about creating a simple wooden carved doll with smaller dolls nestled within. A.I. Mamontov, the owner of the toy store, had no idea that the Russian Matryoshka would become the most famous souvenir and the greatest symbol of Russian folk culture. Over time the matryoshka has gradually grown in popularity to become the most famous Russian souvenir all over the world.
