Mrs. Katerina – a beloved Czech puppet with a rich theatre history
Hello! I’m Mrs. Katerina – full name Katerina Hovorková, though my mum calls me Baby. I’m a proud member of the Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre cast, performing alongside the iconic Spejbl, cheeky Hurvínek, and my clever granddaughter Mánička.
A bit of history: I’m the youngest of the four main puppet characters. I was created especially for Helena Štáchová, who joined the theatre in the 1960s and voiced Mánička. Wanting to expand her roles, she introduced me to the stage in The Hurvínek Trap, which premiered on 12 September 1971.
Beautifully made with attention to traditional Czech craft, this puppet is a delightful collector’s piece or a charming introduction to Czech puppet theatre.
